  • Higher Education has become a rather complicated issue in the country. With tuition fees rising drastically, a number of students hesitate in enrolling for higher education. So what do these students do? Where do they end up getting education?

Most of these students are turning their attention towards the concept of online education. So is the country going to reach a point wherein online education will actually take over the traditional way of learning if things don’t improve?

A recent study shows that students prefer traditional way of learning as compared to the concept of online education. The survey was conducted in many Universities. A common reasoning that occurred during the survey is that traditional method of learning comprises of a certain environment which enables and helps students to perform better. It has been observed that students tend to grasp much more when the lecturer is right in front of their eyes explaining.

Traditional learning method also includes fellow students. It is important to indulge in academic practices in a group. This is the reason why you will probably notice that students sit together before an exam and study.

There is a huge difference between sitting with a bunch of known people and studying as compared to being all alone inside your room and going through the same syllabus in front of your computer. In simple words, the concept of online education fails to generate the certain kind of excitement amongst the students.

On the other hand, majority of the teachers feel that the traditional method of lectures is probably getting outdated because of many students opting for online education concept. Hence, there were a number of teachers who were left pleasantly surprised when they got to know that most of the students prefer the classroom method.

It is important to understand that many students are opting for online education mainly because of lack of options. These are the students who are not able to afford the tuition fees of traditional method anymore and hence have no other option left. It will be interesting to see if a similar survey is conducted about a decade from now on and what kind of response will come out.

The concept of online education might have been new about a decade back but the trend is fast picking up and is very common now. There is every chance that the younger generation which is still in school might prefer online education over traditional learning method in years to come. This is certainly a worrying sign for our Universities. It again stresses on the fact that the problem revolving around higher education needs to be resolved sooner than later.

However, teachers and education administrators can celebrate the fact that majority of the students still prefer the traditional method of education. This in itself is a great achievement for the nation and its education system. One can only pray and hope that the coming batches too think in similar way.
