  • Homecoming too Rowdy

  • Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada has finally cancelled an alumni homecoming in the autumn season. The past few years' homecoming events  have been raunchy, rowdy crowds which have incurred the wrath of the city officials and police.

Not only have alumni always looked forward to the September event, but the current students have gone all out to damage property, vandalize buildings and cars, and face alcoholism charges. The costs of the clean up and the court costs for following up on the crimes have been prohibitive.
    What a shame!

Other universities in Ontario have managed to have fun, encourage parties and city establishments serve alcohol to the student patrons. Business as usual. But somehow Queen's has made it their mandate to destroy and conquer!

We must take away privileges from students and alumni who take advantage of long held customs in the university culture. As per usual, the government and the officials of the city must make rules for the good of everyone, for the sake of the misbehavior of a few out-of-towners. Perhaps in a few years the homecoming custom at Queen's can be returned and it will be a much more serene and welcoming event.

Viciousness and vandalism are not necessary!
