  • Chinese Students Are Increasing in Numbers!

  • There appears to be a real upsurge in the number of applicants from China to the universities in the United States. This is a wonderful finding since the students from China, like the ones from Korea and Japan, are highly motivated. They have excellent SAT scores and arrive with excellent academic training and preparation.

The University of Virginia is one such lucky university who is gaining attention from highly educated Chinese applicants. Only a decade ago 17 Chinese students applied to U-Va. This year the number reached 800 out of almost 22,000 possible candidates and now the recruitment officers are going to have to devise a new method of selection from the very strong applicants.

China is arising from the state of development and is aware that they must send their children to the more prestigious schools in the United States. They are negotiating with visas for students and offering more scholarships to enable their students to attend American schools. Students travel to Korea or Japan to take their SAT tests and they find the math section very easy. The language section is understandably more difficult but they still managed to pull off a 2100 out of 2400 with an 800 perfect score in math.

Chinese parents are realizing that they have to start sending their only child out of the country and spend a lot of money on their education in order for them to compete in the international world. If this trend continues, then all universities will have their pick of the cream of the crop with international students paying out-of-country tuition and residence fees.
