  • Where is it written that all children must attend university or college as soon as they graduate post secondary school?  In today’s tough economy with a very dark tunnel ahead, that is quite a presumption. If you still have a job or a home, you are doing very well. If your pension or stocks went unscathed then pat yourself on the back. But you are clearly in the minority and most of us did lose money, are in the ranks to lose our homes and our cars and can’t pay the utility bills.

Then we have to worry about our star student who has worked hard all of his or her life to attend that ivy –league school. With a partial scholarship and some saved up money and student loans, there still is not enough money and not a cent more to be found. What is that saying? ‘The whole is only as strong as the sum of its parts’. You cannot afford to send your child to an out of state university and you have to tell him or her.

Where is it written that he has to attend right away, this year and only this year? The scholarship can be waived until the following year, the student loan can be put on hold and the student can always try again next year. He can find a full-time job and start a very stringent savings account, pay room and board to help around the house, and take one credit online or at the local college to stay focussed and fresh.

If you fret and worry about not being able to be the parent of the year, you will make yourself ill. Anxiety, stress and physical ailments will start to manifest themselves in your body and you will become very ill. Concentrate on the day and your blessings.
