  • Violence in the college campus is probably the greatest evil of college life. There are endless incidents of robberies, ragging, bullying, gang fights and even shootings, not to forget the many accounts of rape. In the past few years, there have been several reports of blind shooting incidents carried out with the motive of theft in colleges.

    Students Come From Myriad Backgrounds

It is a matter of grave concern for the government, college authorities, faculty and parents as to what triggers such violent behavior in college freshmen.

Stress is one of the major factors for such unruly behavior. First of all, most students stay away from their homes for the first time. No longer are the parents there to guide them at each and every step. So while students may love their new found freedom, they also tend to misuse it.

One must not forget that students in college come from all over the world - different countries, communities, religions and backgrounds. As a result there is always the danger of falling in wrong company and choosing bad friends as you tend to get confused due to such a wide choice.

There is also the problem of peer pressure. Even if you might not want to, you might be forced by your friends to try something out such as drugs.

Female Students Have To Be Extra Cautious

Stress and tension in college occur due to many reasons. The main reason is managing both your studies and your finances. Most students have to do part time jobs after college to pay their tuition fees. Managing studies, projects, assignments and exams along with work puts too much pressure on the students and many find themselves unable to handle such multiple responsibilities. That is when someone may be motivated to steal or pick up a fight unnecessarily simply out of frustration.

Date rapes, in which a girl may be forced by a fellow male student to have sex, is a common evil which all women students have to be very careful about. Such unpleasant incidents can leave a permanent mark on the mind of the victim and even force her to leave college.

Proper orientation and counseling is essential in college to help students enjoy a fruitful college life.
