  • APPLICATION PROCEDURES

There are three different ways to apply to HKU, depending on candidates' qualifications:

    (1) the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS)
    (2) the Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme
    (3) the Direct Admissions Scheme (for direct entry to 2nd year by Associate Degree and Higher Diploma graduates)
Additionally, the University offers an Early Admissions Scheme for Secondary Six students. Each of these is explained in the following sub-sections.

    Applicants from Overseas

Application for admission will be considered based on applicants' academic record, the length of time they have studied at particular institutions, and their proficiency in English. Applicants should also explain why they wish to study in Hong Kong and provide a reference from the head of their school or college. Details about the application procedures can be found in the Application and Admissions section (Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme).
  • Tuition and Fees :
  • COST OF LIVING

Non-local applicants will be required to show that they are able to support themselves financially throughout the course. It is very difficult to provide a precise estimate of the likely cost because it varies from one person to another, depending on the type of accommodation selected, and other factors. For students living in residential halls, a minimum of HK$78,000 per year will be required to cover food, lodging and general living expenses for the academic year 2009-2010. The composition fee for non-local students for 2009-2010 will be HK$100,000. The actual hall charges for 2009-2010 will be finalised by the summer of year 2009. Fees are likely to adjust upward annually.
