  • THE MASTER OF ARTS IN LITERACY AND LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION PROGRAM

    The masters degree program in literacy instruction is designed for competent and dedicated teachers in K-12 classrooms who:

    recognize the significance of language learning for children, adolescents and adults

    Are interested in the role of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in teaching and learning

    desire to learn more about the processes that help students achieve high levels of competence in language and literature as it impacts instruction in the processes of reading, listening, writing and speaking

    are interested in the social, psychological, and cultural foundations of literacy.

    Teachers skilled and confident in the methods of language instruction and research, as well as methods for assessing learning, are well-positioned to have a voice in the on-going development of language and literacy curriculum, policy and practice. This program provides a balance of theory, research, and practice toward developing literacy leaders at the school and district levels. as well as for government, business, and private settings where literacy is a primary concern.
