Schools in Japan are located within the city, usually can easily be reached by public transportation. Most students live off campus and dormitory is available but not many spaces available. If you are studying in a city that's already populated with lots of foreign students, then you will have a nice community to hang around with. If you wish to immerse yourself into the more japanese style community, you may do that as well, it's really quite an experience.

A lot of times students will live with a family.
