This training position, under the direct supervision of a Cleveland Clinic Principal Investigator will provide practical training and experience in a research setting. This position is appointed through Cleveland Clinic Research. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to research, a collaborative work ethic and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. This program is expected to be completed within 5 years.

    The Cleveland Clinic Center for Computational Life Sciences (CCLS) invites applications for multiplePostdoctoral Fellowshipsin itsCollaborative Quantum Computing Research Program. These positions offer the opportunity to advance cutting-edge research at the intersection of quantum information science, biomedical research, and healthcare. Postdoctoral fellows will have access to the first private sector quantum computer dedicated to healthcare and life sciences, an on-premises IBM Heron Quantum System (156 Qubit), located on Cleveland Clinic’s main campus.

    Postdoctoral fellows will support multiple projects led byPrincipal Investigators from across the Cleveland Clinicand contribute to the Center’s overarching mission of exploring and demonstrating quantum advantage for high-impact biomedical challenges.

    Example Research Areas

    Selected fellows may contribute to projects including, but not limited to:

    • Biomechanical simulation datasets: applying quantum-enhanced simulation techniques to model physiological processes and analyze patient-specific imaging data.
    • Biomedical dataset triage: developing quantum machine learning frameworks to identify which biomedical datasets are best suited for quantum advantage.
    • Molecular and protein structure modeling: leveraging hybrid quantum-classical algorithms for molecular simulations and protein folding challenges.
    • Physiological signal analysis: applying quantum machine learning and wavelet methods to enhance the analysis of cardiac and other time-series biosignals.
    • Neuroscience signal forecasting: developing quantum approaches for predicting neural activity patterns from EEG or related datasets to support brain-computer interface research and test fundamental scientific hypotheses.

    Lab Research Topics:

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Independent project design with the goal of data generation, analysis, interpretation and manuscript preparation
    • Conduct research in quantum circuit–level algorithm design and implementation
    • Develop methods for error mitigation, noise modeling, and circuit optimization on near-term devices
    • Collaborate with Principal Investigators across Cleveland Clinic on quantum applications in biomedicine
    • Prepare manuscripts, present at conferences, and contribute to collaborative program deliverables

    Education:

    • PhD or MD/PhD required
    • MD with relevant laboratory experience may substitute for PhD

    Languages:

    • English Proficiency proof required for candidates arriving on J-1, J-2, or F1 + OPT visa status

    Work Experience:

    • Previous experience in a research or academic setting. Graduate student experience meets this requirement.
    • Scientific writing experience

    Additional Preferred Qualities:

    • A PhD in Quantum Computing, Quantum Information Science, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.
    • Demonstrated expertise inQuantum Information Science (QIS)and in thequantum circuit-level design and implementation of algorithms.
    • Experience witherror mitigation techniques, noise modeling, and circuit optimizationfor near-term quantum devices.
    • Hands-on experience withIBM Quantum hardware and software platforms.
    • Strong programming skills and experience with the latest version of Qiskit.
    • Interest in working across disciplines with biomedical collaborators.
    • Experience with biomedical datasets is beneficial but not required.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
    • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
    • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
    • Ability to distinguish color
    • Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment
    • Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds
    • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.

    Pay Range

    Minimum hourly: $0.01

    Maximum hourly: $333,340.26

A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education.
