The Education Abroad office (EA) within Global Programs is accepting applications for an education abroad adviser. The adviser will report to the manager of education abroad advising and will work closely with the entire advising team, director, as well as the EA Academic Records and Faculty Led programs teams to support office-wide strategic goals. The adviser provides guidance and information to students on the availability, value, and academic appropriateness of study abroad programs within the designated program portfolio. Work directly with students both in one-on-one and group sessions; addressing groups of students, parents, and faculty through a variety of media. Advising on program costs, financial aid policies, and education abroad scholarships; responding to inquiries about study abroad. Preparing pre-departure information, working with the online tutorial, and leading orientation sessions; maintaining supportive and constructive communication with students during the advising, application, study abroad, and return stages. Preparing and updating information and materials for EA programs within Terra Dotta Systems, application review and student selection, maintain partnerships with providers, host institutions, and program staff abroad. Support and lead EA initiatives for programming and outreach to prospective study abroad students. Activities include but are not limited to; Education Abroad Fair, information sessions, returned student programming, events, etc.; Crisis support: collaborating with appropriate crisis response team members in the case of student emergencies abroad. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong preference for applicants with experience living, working and/or studying abroad. Applicants should be comfortable with the use of information technology. Experience with Terra Dotta Systems and Microsoft Office are highly desirable. Ability to communicate persuasively, public speaking excellence, attentiveness to detail, and ability to handle several tasks at once are valuable assets for this job. The education abroad adviser is expected to be committed to the field of international education and best practices. Master's degree as well as Forum on Education Abroad Certification in the Standards of Good Practice preferred. Successful candidates must be prepared to work with students and their support networks addressing a number of questions related to the education abroad process. Demonstrated work experience in a multicultural environment, collaboratively in a team setting, as well as independently. Some nights and weekends required. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. either as a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
