  • Responsible for maintaining, monitoring, securing and supporting the Lehigh University campus network including all routers, switches, wireless, firewall, VPN and core networking management infrastructure. Manages, troubleshoots and maintains all internal and external network connections to the campus network, commodity internet service providers (ISPs) and Internet2. Assists with developing and maintaining network applications, network architecture, network security and networking monitoring tools.     1. Primary responsibility is supporting, troubleshooting, monitoring and management of network infrastructure including both wired and wireless
    *Manages incoming tickets, provides Tier 3 network support for Library and Technology Services (LTS), isolates problem causes, identifies problem solution alternatives, recommends and implements a course of action
    *Identifies, develops and deploys tools supporting fault and alert detection and configuration management
    *Documents solutions for future reference and ensures knowledge is transferred for future reference; uses established commercial best practices to develop templates and documentation to improve operational procedures
    *Provides network infrastructure and switch life cycle support
    *Works with the Network Architect and network team to design the campus wired and wireless network

    2. Develop scripts and tools to automate, manage and secure network infrastructure
    *Automate and script administrative tasks using python and other modern scripting languages
    *Designs processes and tools to gather critical network data; develops databases to house collected data, creates programs to use collected data
    *Design, develop, debug, maintain, and modernize, web interfaces and tools in support of the NET
    *Develops, documents and manages internal procedures and tools

    3. Provides support for enhancing network security
    *Understands network security issues and works with other LTS staff to address network security
    *Tests network vulnerabilities and security of developed solutions
    *Manages firewall technologies including general configuration and rule set creation

    4. Assists with the design, deployment and segmentation of networks at Lehigh University
    *Creates, maintains and documents VLANs (e.g. PCI) within the campus network domain to affect traffic segmentation
    *Works with clients to isolate and protect specific types of network traffic
    *Produces network diagrams, network documentation, logical and physical network flow diagrams
    *Collaborates with LTS Security Team to ensure network segments comply with requirements

    The duties of this position may allow the employee to work fully remote; as deemed appropriate by their supervisor


    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or the equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's degree preferred

    Five to eight years related work experience

    Experience in support of network technologies and perimeter security

    Proficiency in any scripting language (Python, Perl, JavaScript, PHP, etc.)

    Knowledge and experience with Cisco switches and Aruba wireless network products preferred

    Knowledge and experience with Cisco ASA and Firepower firewall and security technologies

    Knowledge and experience with on-premises and cloud-based network design and implementation

    Cisco Certification, CCNA or CCNP are a definite plus

    Attention to detail and organizational skills required

    Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

    Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

    Strong project management skills and accountability in meeting deadlines and juggling multiple projects

    Works well with in a collaborative team environment

    Excellent computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet and database software

    Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
