    The KY Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as a Music and Studio Programs Supervisor/Lecturer. The anticipated start date is January 9, 2025.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: The Music and Studio Programs Supervisor/Lecturer (MSSL) will work directly with the Director of the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music (KCTM) on the development and implementation of the Traditional Music Studies curriculum, maintaining academic rigor and coaching, mentoring, and teaching students. The MSSL is charged with the oversight and maintenance of the Traditional Music archives and recording studio, and with the supervision of student workers, fellows, and archival workers, lab activities, scheduling, equipment, and policies.

    REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in music with teaching and performance expertise in bluegrass and other acoustic music forms. Two years of successful teaching experience and/or personal expertise as a performer in bluegrass and/or other acoustic music forms. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in computer skills and understanding of hardware to complete assigned reports and documentation. Mastery of ProTools and applicable plugins/third-party software/hardware and recording techniques.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree preferred. Excellent interpersonal and time management, budgeting, and organizational skills. Familiarity with the musical heritage of Kentucky Appalachia. Professional performance and recording experience.

    Organizational Relationships
    The MSSL reports primarily to the KCTM Director and, regarding teaching responsibilities, to the Chair of the Department of Music.

    The MSSL must interact with the departmental staff, Information Technology staff, Facilities Management personnel, the Dean of the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and the Music and Traditional Music program faculty and students. Contact with other academic departments and administrative offices as needed. Regular contact with equipment suppliers and sales personnel.
    Physical Requirements
    The MSSL must be able to lift 20 lbs.
    Working Conditions
    This is a 12-month full-time campus-based position focusing on teaching, with duties shifting to aforementioned responsibilities between academic semesters. Evening and weekend hours are required on an as-needed basis. The position includes some travel. The MSSL will experience frequent interruptions, visitors, telephone calls, and deadline pressure.
