This role provides comprehensive health care, education and customer service primarily to the student population. The role provides team-based support to providers and improves efficiency and productivity to the medical clinic. This position assists the provider (Physician/APN) to aid in clinic flow, productivity and continuity of care to patients.

The Medical Clinic provides a wide range of health care services for students including: primary care for illnesses and injuries, as well as chronic conditions, physicals, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, allergy shots, vaccinations, travel health care, and concussion care.

    Provider Support/Patient Care/Customer Service:

    Interview patients to identify primary complaints, collect appropriate vital signs, and record relevant medical history in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) during the patient intake process. This includes gathering historical data on previous allergies, updating the patient's medication list, documenting significant medical history, family medical history, and identifying learning barriers. Be responsible for charging and charting all procedures, treatments, and medications administered, implementing the provider's treatment plan for patients of all ages (primarily late adolescents and early adulthood population). Assist in direct patient care procedures, administer prescribed medications and immunizations, and support nurses and providers during procedures based on competencies in Medical Services. Be familiar with the location of the crash cart and available to assist RN and Provider staff in a code situation if needed. Additionally, be responsible for daily and as-needed stocking of exam rooms, including infection prevention and cleaning between patients.
    Point of Care (POC): Perform POC tests on patients regularly, ensuring compliance with CLIA regulations. Competency tests are conducted annually to maintain compliance. All POC tests are documented in the EMR for accurate charting and charging.

    EMR Documentation:

    Responsible for documenting and charging in the EMR for all procedures, POC tests, treatments, and medications administered. Charting and charging are completed at the time of care. To meet AAAHC standards, random audits of Medical Assistant charts are conducted twice a year.

    This in-person role will not be expected to work University recognized holidays or evenings and will not be on call at any time. The anticipated work schedule is Monday – Friday during regular business hours and will be 100% during the academic year (August 1st through May 31st) and 50% during the summer (June 1st through July 31st).

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.75 per hour. Non-certified applicants would begin at $20.00/hour, and certified applicants pay will begin at $20.50/hour and go up from there, depending on years of experience.
