  • Job Purpose
    The Department of Chemistry at Tennessee Technological University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position (9-month contract) in Inorganic Chemistry starting August 2025.

    The Department of Chemistry confers ACS-certified B. S. and M. S. degrees in Chemistry and participates in the interdisciplinary Environmental Science (EVS) Ph.D. program. The department is located in the Laboratory Science Commons (LSC), an interdisciplinary, 160,000 ft2 facility for research and teaching completed in 2021. Laboratories include shared spaces for collaboration as well as private research labs. Extensive investment in modern instrumentation for research and teaching has well positioned the university for expanded outcomes in research. Recent acquisitions can be found on the department website at https://www.tntech.edu/cas/chemistry/instrumentation.php. The department also encourages interaction with nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Tennessee Tech is conveniently located in Cookeville, between Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga. The campus is in close proximity to numerous state parks and natural areas.

    Essential Functions
    The successful applicant will teach in the field of inorganic chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate level; advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and develop an independent, externally funded research program.
    Minimum Qualifications
    A Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field, with an emphasis in inorganic chemistry, from an accredited institution. Research interests in inorganic chemistry (such as coordination chemistry, organometallics, materials chemistry, bioinorganic, etc.); potential to develop and maintain an externally-funded research program leading to national recognition; potential for excellence in teaching and scholarly activities; demonstrated record of peer-reviewed scholarship; and excellent written and oral communication skills.
    Preferred Qualifications
    Post-doctoral experience and/or previous teaching experience; evidence of grantsmanship, research, and scholarly activities; and evidence of professional and scholarly services.
    Compensation and Benefits
    Salary Commensurate with education and experience. Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2025.
