TUTORIAL SERVICES
Tutorial Services:
Tutoring is available to all Fairmont State University/Pierpont Community & Technical College students through the Tutorial Services Center. All full-time and part-time students are entitled to free tutoring. Students with documented disabilities may be eligible for additional support services. Students are encouraged to apply for tutoring for extra academic support and especially if they are in danger of failing a class. Each semester tutoring is available for most basic required courses and for a variety of other courses. However, tutorial services are usually only available on the main campus and are not usually provided at the off-campus sites. The tutoring center has individual tutoring areas equipped with dry boards, desks, and several computers. Students needing tutorial services should complete a "Tutor Request Form." Students in good academic standing (sophomores, juniors, seniors) who would like to serve as paid "peer tutors" must complete an application, take a free, one-hour tutor training practicum online course, complete other required training, and meet established criteria and standards to qualify as a tutor. The Tutorial Services program is certified by the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA). The Tutorial Services Center is located in 207 Jaynes Hall. Tutoring sessions are held in Jaynes Hall in Rooms 202-A, 207, and 212 (see current schedule for locations and times). For information students should come to the office or call 304-367-4294. Other services and resources available to students for academic support are "Smarthinking" and www.hippocampus.org. Information about Smarthinking is available by clicking on the link to the left. Hippocampus is a free online service which provides tutorials and review lessons in a variety of subject areas. Anyone can establish a free account and use the service as needed.
