Ask our students where they spend their free time, and they'll give you a range of answers. Many like to hang out at the Hut, a bistro where students can enjoy hot coffee and entertainment by bands, comedians, novelty acts, and performing artists. On weekends in the fall and winter, most students flock to Fullerton Field for a home football game. In fact, the Wasps have the largest average home football attendance of any Division III team.

For a dose of the great outdoors, students have banded together to form E&H Outdoors, a club that meets regularly and sponsors programs and recreational events throughout the year. E&H Outdoors has sponsored trips to the camp grounds in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and numerous nearby state parks, such as Hungry Mother, Natural Tunnel, Shot Tower, Claytor Lake, Grayson Highlands, and Warrior's Path.

Fun can be found off campus as well -- in the nearby town of Abingdon, Virginia, for example, home of the world-class Barter Theatre, great shopping, and well-known eateries such as the Tavern, the Starving Artist, and the Hardware Company. For more entertainment, it's off to the Tri-Cities area for clubbing and shopping in Johnson City, exploring the Bristol Caverns in Bristol, or visiting the planetarium and Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport.

Of course, in their "down time," many students enjoy hanging out with their friends in the residence halls, eating pizza at an Italian restaurant near campus, watching movies, and celebrating birthdays with a freshly baked cake from the dining hall. Because, while Emory & Henry is buzzing with action, its laid-back environment invites students to relax and enjoy a little quiet time every now and then.
